Pin-to-Pin Mating Protection —
A plug and receptacle will not mate with connectors having the same contact gender.

Scoop-Proof Design —
Pin contacts are recessed to prevent damage due to scooping by the mating connector shell.

Grounding Before Contact —
Complete grounding between connector halves occurs 0.050 inch (1.27mm) before engagement of the electrical contacts.

38999 SERIES IV - BREECH-LOK

BREECH-LOK COUPLING

Breech-Lok Coupling is one of the newest innovations for miniature circular connectors. It offers a rugged, fool-proof, quick-disconnect operation The Breech-Lok mechanism distributes the coupling load over solid metal lands located on the receptacle keys and the plug coupling ring, while the internal drive threads (4 start ACME) provide the mechanical advantage to engage the contacts and interfacial seals.

POSITIVE MATE WITH THREE INDICATORS

Breech-Lok Coupling is unique in regard to operator feel and reaction. As the connector halves are brought together, the key/keyway relationships of the breech system provide a balanced hold-off, which prevents any cross starting or partial engagement, until both halves are properly aligned. Once aligned, the connector halves are brought together to engage the EMI grounding fingers, offering shell-to-shell conductivity, prior to contact engagement. This positive mate action makes the connector ideal for "blind-mating" applications. When the key/keyways and EMI fingers are engaged, a 90° turn of the coupling ring brings the inner plug housing into full engagement with the receptacle, and contact engagement occurs.

Three full mate indicators are provides:
•  A red band at the rear of the plug disappears.
•  A detent mechanism provides an audible click and a distinct tactile indication of locking.
•  An indicator line on the receptacle aligns with the master key indicator on the coupling ring, for positive visual inspection.

INCREASED MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE

The Breech-Lok connector meets requirements for shock, vibration, and heavy rear accessory loads which exceed those specified for most threaded and bayonet coupling devices.

INCREASED SHIELDING EFFECTIVENESS

Superior EMI/EMP shielding is provided by grounding fingers within the plug housing, which engage the smooth continuous diameter of the receptacle and careful selection of conductive finishes.

MOISTURE SEALING

Interfacial seals are fully compressed in the mated condition, preventing water intrusion. A dynamic O-ring provides a redundant peripheral seal, without reducing the effectiveness of the interfacial seal. G & H Technology has tested connectors in water, to a depth of 6' for 48 hours, without loss of sealing or electrical properties.

IMPROVED REAR ACCESSORY INTERFACE

The Breech-Lok connectors are provided with metric rear accessory threads. Improved strength is achieved by providing increased wall thickness beneath the metric thread. Serrations at the rear of the connector provide for anti-rotation of the backshells. Excellent shielding closure is achieved with EMI-type backshells.

Environmental sealing between the connector and the backshell is facilitated by providing a smooth cylindrical surface behind the threads.

SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY

Common features of the MIL-C-38999 family have retained:
•  Size and weight are similar to Series I
•  Common mounting cut-outs are used
•  Standard Insert arrangements
